First Christian Church, February 20, 2005
On February 20, 2005, First Christian Church of Antelope Valley celebrated its fiftieth anniversary. Current and former members gathered for a celebration centered on the theme "REJOICE".
Pastor David Wheeler and Elder Bill Armstrong lead the worship service, but instead of the usual seating arrangements, families joined friends at long rows of tables. Regional minister Don Shelton installed George Manthey as an Elder Emeritus, music rang out, and everyone rejoiced. Hanging on the wall was a quilt with squares made by almost all of the members and former pastors.
After the worship service, the party continued. Bettye Davis performed a hula dance. Charter members spoke. Jeanette Wells, Pat Reno, and the English and Spanish choirs sang. The orchestra (the recently expanded recorder group) played. The Youth Voice Choir read. Everyone enjoyed lunch and conversation.
Everyone expressed thanks to event organizers and workers, including Tylene Trout, Kelly Marsh, and Nancy Stichman. And, of course, there were many thanks to God for making it all possible.
